Heavy metal deep marking solutions for the transportation industry

The transportation landscape is evolving in response to major environmental challenges. More people are choosing bicycles over cars for short trips, and there has been a significant rise in the use of electric transportation such as e-bikes and scooters.

A more accessible, affordable, and faster rail network is essential to connect Europe's largest cities. Sustainable alternatives to short-haul flights are urgently needed, which means building new trains and tracks - made up of components that must be permanently marked for traceability and identification.

Major challenges in rail marking

In Russia, construction of faster trains and roads to connect major cities is already underway. Telesis sales manager in Russia, Vadim Zabolotnikov, met with the director of a railway plant at a trade show in Moscow, where they agreed to visit the facility and discuss the best way to permanently mark the wheels of the new trains.

The challenge was to mark train wheels made from HB280 and HB320 steel with a minimum depth of 0.4 mm, completing each 5-character mark in just 12 seconds.

Later, during the COVID-19 pandemic, a second trail with the TMP7000 micro-percussion system delivered outstanding results. Despite a second trail with the TMP7000 micro-percussion system delivered outstanding results.

Multiple settings were tested- air pressure, density, and stroke count- proving the TMP7000's unmatched flexibility and power.

PINSTAMP® TMP7000 for heavy metal marking

The PINTAMP® TMP7000 of TELESIS was selected for its ability to meet all technical and customization demands, compared to the competition which could not meet the customer's requirements.

TELESIS immediately began production of three units, each equipped with TMC470 PINSTAMP controllers and custom portable tooling.

The TMP7000 marker is a robust and powerful single-pin laser marker with a large 100 x 150 mm marking window. It is available in a fixed mount version, but for this application, it was designed with certain special features:

  • Rocker arm
  • Head suspension hook
  • Robust positioning guard
  • Start-cycle buttons on dual handles
  • Built-in- safety with magnets (440 pounds holding force)
  • Emergency stop and logic to prevent unintentional marking

Dot peen technology provides value in numerous projects in the rail industry. TELESIS marking systems are built for the rigorous needs of the transportation sector- especially rail.

The high demand for more train tracks, newer and better trains, in addition to legal requirements on traceability, creates incredible opportunities to implement new improvements in marking systems. Whether it's laser, dot peen, or scribe marking, these technologies meet the industry´s high standards for permanence, legibility, and efficiency.

At VINSSA we are proud to be official distributors of Telesis laser marking systems in Texas.
