  • Oils, greases
  • Dirt
  • Pigments

Acid Cleaners & Pickling Agents: Necessary for metal surface treatment and surface finish before applying a conversion coating. Removes:

  • Rust
  • Scale deposits

Neutral Cleaners: Used in intermediate cleaning stages of industrial processes. Provide temporary corrosion protection and are used for:

  • Final or intermediate cleaning
  • Cleaning after assembly
  • Temporary corrosion protection

Key Factors in Surface Treatment

Success in surface finish depends on optimizing four key factors, which directly influence process efficiency and cost savings:

  • Time: Ensuring the correct duration allows products to act effectively.
  • Temperature: Precise control enhances chemical performance and accelerates the process.
  • Application Method: The technique used directly impacts treatment efficiency.
  • Chemicals: Using the right products ensures effective contaminant removal without damaging surfaces.

Benefits of Surface Treatment

Our innovative surface finish technology processes provide several benefits:

  • Lower energy and water consumption
  • Reduced chemical waste
  • Fewer process steps
  • Shorter cycle times
  • More eco-friendly operations
  • Lower tooling costs

What is D.I. and R.O. Water?

D.I. Water (Deionized Water).

  • Has had Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, HCO3- ions removed through ion exchange. Conductivity: 0–10 µS.

R.O. Water (Reverse Osmosis).

  • Has reduced salt content through a semipermeable membrane under osmotic pressure. Conductivity: 20–50 µS.

Surface Finish Pretreatment Processes

Vinssa

Nanoceramic Treatment

Provides corrosion protection through a cleaner process with no sludge and lower operating temperatures. It may not require R.O. or D.I. water, but consultation with our advisors is recommended.

Line Requirements:

  • Chemical cleaning in production lines.
  • Stainless steel tank.
  • Use of D.I. or R.O. water.
  • If used as a conversion process, at least two rinses are required after alkaline cleaning.
  • Cascade rinses before cleaning.

Recommended Products:

  1. Bonderite M-NT 41042
  2. Bonderite M-NT 1
  3. Bonderite M-NT 1200
Surface Finish Pretreatment Processes

Iron Phosphating

A conventional chemical coating that converts metal surfaces into non-metallic ones. Offers excellent corrosion resistance and improves paint adhesion and durability.

Ventajas

  • Lower operational costs.
  • Fewer process steps.
  • Simple and flexible processes.
Vinssa

Zinc Phosphating

Transforms the metal surface finish into a polycrystalline structure composed of iron, manganese, nickel, and zinc phosphates..

Ventajas

  • Suitable for different metals.
  • Excellent corrosion protection and paint adhesion.
Vinssa

Aluminum Treatment

Chrome-based and chrome-free treatments for aluminum surfaces. Previously known as Alodine, now part of the BONDERITE portfolio. Includes rinse-free products that reduce process steps, saving water, maintenance time, and waste treatment costs. Provides aluminum with higher corrosion resistance, compatible with organic coatings like paint or adhesives.

Vinssa

Metal Washing & Degreasing

Removes grease from previous processes that come into contact with metal substrates.

Vinssa

Metal Pickling & Scale Removal

A preliminary treatment before subsequent manufacturing processes.

Vinssa

Surface Sealing

Increases corrosion resistance.

Vinssa

Autophoretic Coating

An epoxy-based, corrosion-resistant coating that eliminates the need for typical pretreatments (phosphates, zirconium, etc.), reducing water, chemical, process time, and energy consumption.

This technique deposits a layer of anticorrosive paint via immersion, exclusively for iron (CRS, HRS, or cast iron), without electrical current. It requires lower curing temperatures and times compared to e-coat.

Why Choose Vinssa and BONDERITE?

  • Streamlined processes with fewer steps
  • Lower energy and maintenance costs
  • Ideal for robust processes with a broad operational window
  • Economic and ecological process improvement program.
  • Reduced hazardous waste
  • Lower secondary costs (energy, water)
  • Complete process control

Frequently Asked Questions about Surface Treatment

How do I know which product to use for my surface treatment process?

The selection of the right cleaner will depend on the type of metal, the level of soiling and the subsequent treatment in your process.

What types of cleaners are there?

There are several types of Bonderite cleaners designed to perform different functions within the surface treatment process:

  • Alkaline cleaners: Effective for removing oils, grease and organic contaminants.
  • Acidic cleaners: Ideal for the removal of oxides and mineral deposits.
  • Neutral cleaners: Used in more delicate applications where gentle cleaning is required without affecting the substrate.

What are the advantages of using nanoceramic technology instead of traditional phosphating?

Bonderite's nano-ceramic technology is an excellent choice when looking to increase sustainability and reduce environmental impact without sacrificing the quality of the metal surface treatment.

  • Cleaner process: No sludge is generated, significantly reducing waste and the cost associated with waste management.
  • Higher energy efficiency: Operates at lower temperatures than phosphating processes, resulting in lower energy consumption.
  • Multi-metal compatibility: Can be applied on a wide range of metals, including steel, aluminium and galvanised.
  • Lower environmental impact: Reduces the use of water and chemicals compared to traditional methods, promoting more sustainable processes.
  • Process optimisation: By requiring fewer steps (rinses, baths), it speeds up the production line, reducing operating costs and cycle time.
